Layers of Jurassic marble

Layers of Jurassic marble

A brief overview of the nomenclature of Jurassic marble from JuraLimestone GmbH (quarries Petersbuch, Lohmannshof, Kaldorf, Eckertshofen).

It should be noted that the coloration of Jurassic marble varies depending on the layers from different quarries, but the ability to extract stone simultaneously from several quarries ensures the supply of large volumes of stone in a short time.

Jurassic marble by layers of deposition

Below is a classic breakdown of the Jurassic marble's stratigraphic layers.

Jurassic limestone Jura Beige

Jurassic yellow marble.

Layer 1-9, 12-13, JuraLimestone Jura Beige of yellow color with numerous fossil inclusions, with a relatively distinct structure, is cut in slabs, used as a material only for floors and interior finishing.

Jurassic limestone Jura Blue

Jurassic marble gray-blue JuraLimestone Jura Blue.

It can be found predominantly in all layers up to the 10th and 11th, a pure gray-blue color is usually found in layers from the 1st to the 6th layer, but its use is only possible indoors since pyrite inclusions are often found in the lower layers, which lead to corrosion and the formation of water-soluble compounds that manifest themselves over time in the form of streaks on the facade.

Jurassic limestone Jura Blue

Jurassic beige marble JuraLimestone Jura Melange.

For facades, only the upper layers should be used, starting from 20 where it can be found either mixed with the beige layer (JuraLimestone Jura Melange) or in a pure gray-blue color (JuraLimestone Jura Blue). Such stone is rare, which accounts for its higher price.
